Regatta in Sunny Naples
We arrived in sunny Naples on Wednesday evening. For us Finns, the local traffic felt a bit chaotic and intimidating, but we made it to the sailing club in one piece—eager to get on the water and enjoy some fantastic local cuisine.
Thursday marked our first time sailing after the winter break, and we had the pleasure of training with the local team, ITA888. It felt like a summer day out on the water, though the Italians might have disagreed on just how warm it really was! Naples treated us to two perfect training days before the racing kicked off on Saturday. It was wonderful to reunite with many of our Italian sailing friends, and we were happy to see a German team there as well.
Saturday – Racing Begins
The first day of racing brought a nice medium breeze and plenty of sunshine. The level of competition seems to rise every year, making Italian regattas increasingly exciting and pushing everyone to give their all on the racecourse. One of the starts the second upwind mark was changed, which caused some confusion and led to a protest—but all was resolved in the end.
Saturday evening, we all gathered for a lovely dinner at the elegant sailing club. It was a great opportunity to catch up with fellow sailors and enjoy some delicious food. Hats off to the race committee for doing a fantastic job throughout the event.
Sunday – Challenging Conditions
On Sunday, we sailed two races in light to medium breeze with some shifting winds and patchy pressure. In the first race of the day, we managed to finish second—ITA2 caught a favorable breeze on the final downwind leg and snatched first place. The racing was close and fun, with plenty of position changes and exciting battles at the front of the fleet especially battling with ITA4 was fun. In the final race, we had some trouble with our kite, which left us rounding the last upwind mark as the last boat. Until we saw ITA77 in trouble after a collision that caused their bow to rip in half. The race committee responded quickly, stabilizing the boat by tying the marks on the boat and towing it safely back to shore. Fortunately, everything was handled smoothly and the crew was fine but boat not so much.
What a wonderful and exciting regatta to start the season. Thank you to everyone involved. See you at the next one in Rimini!

Regata nella soleggiata Napoli
Siamo arrivati nella soleggiata Napoli mercoledì sera. Per noi finlandesi, il traffico locale è sembrato un po’ caotico e intimidatorio, ma siamo arrivati al circolo velico sani e salvi, ansiosi di scendere in acqua e gustare la fantastica cucina locale.
Giovedì è stata la nostra prima volta in barca a vela dopo la pausa invernale e abbiamo avuto il piacere di allenarci con il team locale, ITA888. Sembrava una giornata estiva in acqua, anche se gli italiani potrebbero non essere d’accordo su quanto fosse caldo! Napoli ci ha regalato due giornate di allenamento perfette prima dell’inizio delle regate di sabato. È stato meraviglioso ritrovare molti dei nostri amici velisti italiani e siamo stati felici di vedere anche un team tedesco.
Il primo giorno di regate ha portato una piacevole brezza media e tanto sole. Il livello di competizione sembra aumentare di anno in anno, rendendo le regate italiane sempre più emozionanti e spingendo tutti a dare il massimo sul campo di regata. Una delle partenze alla seconda boa di bolina è stata modificata, causando un po’ di confusione e portando a una protesta, ma alla fine tutto si è risolto.
Sabato sera ci siamo riuniti tutti per una deliziosa cena presso l’elegante circolo velico. È stata un’ottima occasione per incontrare altri velisti e gustare del cibo delizioso. Complimenti al comitato di regata per l’ottimo lavoro svolto durante l’evento.
Domenica – Condizioni impegnative
Domenica abbiamo disputato due regate con vento da leggero a medio, con alcuni venti instabili e pressione variabile. Nella prima regata della giornata siamo riusciti a concludere al secondo posto: ITA2 ha trovato un vento favorevole nell’ultima poppa e si è aggiudicato il primo posto. La regata è stata serrata e divertente, con numerosi cambi di posizione ed emozionanti battaglie in testa alla flotta, soprattutto con ITA4. Nell’ultima regata abbiamo avuto qualche problema con il nostro kite, che ci ha costretti a girare l’ultima boa di bolina come ultima barca. Finché non abbiamo visto ITA77 in difficoltà dopo una collisione che ha causato la rottura della prua. Il comitato di regata è intervenuto rapidamente, stabilizzando la barca legando le boe e trainandola in sicurezza a riva. Fortunatamente, tutto si è svolto senza intoppi e l’equipaggio stava bene, ma la barca non altrettanto.
Che regata meravigliosa ed emozionante per iniziare la stagione. Grazie a tutti i partecipanti. Ci vediamo alla prossima a Rimini!
